SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

We commend fo tho serious attention of parents and others interested in tho progress ami development of our educational system tho letter which appears iv another column of to-day's f-W'Aii from tho Chairman of the Lylton Street Committee upon tho subject of tho meetings to bo held next Monday night for tho election of School Committees. There i.s no agitation that has worked up partisan interest, in the elections this year, and, on the other hand, the visit of Premier Massey as a recruiting ollieer will atfeet attendances at the School Committee meetings in Feilding and its immediate surroundings. All tho same, wo trust there will be Milbcienf interest on tho part of parents and guardians anil others interested in tho training of the ehildniind to secure adequate attendances at the meetings. As our correspondent suggests, these elections should not bo allowed to go by default nor should bo. duties of Committees be looked upon as merely perfunctory. And why should not some of our mothers lake up the privilege that is theirs and oiler their services for work on the Committees;' Their presence on the Committees will be welcomed, aud they should liud l]ie work offering quite as full of interest for thorn aa for men-folks, who do' not monopolise the seats on the. Committees from malice aforethought, but because there is not the competition offering that would indicate, tho lively interest in school matters so essential to a progressive community. The Committees in the past June done good work for our young people, and there is always room for improvement, besides opportunities offered even to School Committees for carrying out ideas—such as school gardens, seod-gatboring, etc. —that will benefit the boys and girls in the best and most pliant years of thoir lives.
