Charles Torev Smith. 36 -veiars ot age, was charged with that, being prohibited immigrant, having been convicted of a crime and sentenced to imprisonment for more than ono year, and five years not having elapseel since the termination of such imprisonment, he did enter tho Commonwealth. Smith pleaded guilty to the charge. At the end of three years and ono month he was discharged, and came to Australia as the mate of an American barque H e arrived at Newcastle about the beginning of January, and was working at the steel works for a tew weeks. He had been trying to get a ship, but, owing to his bad character, the United States Consul wenifef not grant him permission to Ship Jho Magistrate sentenced delenelant to lour months' imprisonment, to allow of arrangements being made for his deportation. j
