The Kaiser has returned to Germany with his staff. He allowed descriptive writers, photographers, cinematograph operators.' artists and poets to_ witness the opening attacks, and their accounts* wore- utilised in the press and at tho cinemas to preparo the public for a great triumph. The. newspapers were evidently reticent in the later stages of the battle. Tho Chronicle's Geneva correspondent says advices-from Mainz disclose disorganisation in the German Staff as. a result of the Verdun attack.' Several generals advise against continuing the offensive, buf- Field-Mar-shal yon Falkonbayn continues to send reinforcements. An officer of the Qeneral Staff estimates the losses from Friday to Monday at 75,000.
