To-day's History. Edward IV. died, 1-188. Francis Bacon died, 1626Flinders - discovered Spencer and Vincent Gulfs (Australia), 1802. Surrender of General Lee at Appomattox, 1865. D. G. Rossotti, tho poet, died, 1882. Marion Crawford, the Italian-Ame-rican novelist, died, 1909. Edward IV. died on April 9, 1483.. Perhaps (so romantic arc we) he is best, remembered as tho father of the little princes murdered by their wicked uncle in the Tower of London. Francis Bacon died on April 9, 162 G. The "wisest, brightest, meanest of mankind," he was a jurist, philosopher, aud great writer, but ho did not write "Hamlet" or "Twelfth Night." Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the pro-llaphaelite painter and poet, died on April 9, 1882. Th National Gallery (Loudon) was opened on April 9, 1838. On April 9, 1865, General Robert E. Lee and his Confederate army surrendered at Appomattox to General Ulysses Grant, the Federal leader, and afterwards "United States President. Now tho "Robert E. Lee" is a ragtime dance. Sic transit gloria mundi.
