The Russians captured Kerjek, 21 miles north-east of- Prasnysz.
.Official. —-During the day at Rover- , juka, in Eastern Galicia, we made prisoners of 47 Austrian officers and 3000 men. The Austrians continue abortive attacks between the Ondawa and the San,, with immense losses. We repelled them by hand grenades and the bayonet. Counterattacks captured many prisoners and guns. The Russians are progressing at Grodno, Niemen, and Mlawa.
At the opening of the war, army contractors wanted the ;Grand Duko Nicholas to discuss supplies. He kept them waiting in an ante-chamber for hours. Finally the Grand Duke appeared. He ignored their greeting, and said: "He who steals, I hang. Good morning!" Graft has diminishrcl to an extent liitherto unknown in Russia.
