WILL O' THE WISP.
Mr L. A. Mac Donald writes from Halcombe: On several evenings of last month bright, mysterious lights were seen moving with great rapidity over that part of the country which lies between Feilding and Halcombe, Sanson and Bulls. Their brightness i& fully as intense as that of any acetylene lamp, and it is no exaggeration to estimate their speed at a mile a second. Sometimes, though not often, they travel more slowly. Now and then they remain for a second stationary. Without any warning, they will dash off at the incredible speed indicated. The lights may be, as the scientists allege, bubbles of luminous' gas arising from marshy places, but their theory regarding the ignis fatuus fails when the extraordinary movements are taken into consideration.
