A squall area passed in the south during Wednesday night, and some rain has fallen in the western and southern portions of the South Island. Fair to cloudy and cold weather has ruled to-day. Moderate "to strong westerly to southerly winds have prevailed, squally occasionally in and southward of Cook Strait. Forecast. —Present indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds, but more variable breezes prevailing shortly. There is a prospect of fair weather generally, but cloudy and misty at times along the eastern coast, especially of the North Island. The barometer has a rising tendency everywhere. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. Soujh-easterly moderate to strong wirfSif. There is a prospect of fine weather—days bright and nights cold. The barometer has a rising tendency.
