Last night's cables give further particulars of the German advance on their right and the utter failure of their attempt to force.the Allies back, the enemy being beaten all along the line. Near Amiens and Peronne there was great, fighting between the Germans and French/with alternate successes. The Germans are very active in Belgium, 150,000 men being engaged. The Belgians held their own, however, and inflicted heavy losses. The Russians, who have.defeated the Germans as well as the Austrians, hanged three German officers and nineteen men to trees as reprisals for the hanging of six Russian peasants. General Botha declares that the Kaiser wanted South Africa for his surplus population.
