PERSONAL.

Mr A. M. Onglev (Mayor) and Mrs Ongley returned home yesterday after having spent a week's holiday in Taranaki.

Mr C. N. Boult, of Mackay, Queensland, has been appointed Engineer to the Westport Harbour Board at £1000 a year, out of 26 applicants. „

A very pleasing ceremony took place at the monthly meeting of the Kiwitea County Council on Saturday, when the chairman (Mr Fowler) presented Cr. Morton, on behalf of the ratepayers of Kimbolton Riding, with two silver centre dishes in recognition oi his services to the riding during the 16 years he has represented them m the/Council. Cr. Morton, in acknowledging the gift, said the kindly expressions of the chairman, which accompanied the gift, came as a great surprise "and pleasure to him, for too often councillors were adversely criticised for their work on the Council. He was glad to know that his services had been appreciated..

Deep regret will be felt locally (says the Standard) at the news of -the death of Father Joseph Paul Kehoe, the sad event taking place at St. Joseph's Presbytery, New Plymouth, on Friday last. Tlie deceased priest was a man of deep learning who had very broad-minded opinions. He laboured in the Arch-Diocese of Dublin for some years, and was also a vice-presi-dent of the Irish College in Rome. Besides being a splendid musician he had considerable ability as a composer. Many of his sacred compositions have been rendered in St. Patrick's Church. Father Kehoe was a contemporary of Father Healey, parish -priest of Bray, Ireland, a celebrated wit. Before coming to Palmerston North three and a-half years ago deceased laboured in Parnell for four or five years, and after spending about two years here, being associated with the late Father Costellb, he went to New Plymouth about 18 months ago. Tho funeral took place at- New Plymouth yesterday.

Tho Rev. H. B. Redstone, of Wellington, passed away on Sunday, just after he had. returned from attendance at service in Taranaki street church, and whilst sitting on the verandah of his 'house in Hawker street. Mr Redstone was born in 1836 at New Quay, Devon. In his quite young days he was an active, ardent.Methodist preacher, and in 1871 he arrived in Napier, where he was attached to tho United Free Methodist Church. Next he was transferred to Wellington, whence, after a long ministry, he went to Christchurch, and in 1596 the union of- the Bible Christian Methodist Church, the Wesleyan Methodist Church, and the United Free Methodist Church was effected. Mr Redstone was not then given a fixed stabut his services were given wherever they were needed for tlie Church. It was in 1896 that ho wa.s superannuated. He was greatly respected by ■ all who knew him. MiRedstone is .survived by his widow.and two married daughters (Mrs Fee and Mrs Sutherland). Mr W. E. Redstone,, of Wellington, is a brother, and his other brothers are Messrs John Redstone, Gisborne, and James Redstone. Tavistock, Devon. His only sister is Mrs H. L. Wilkinson, of Cleveland, Ohio.
