Feilding Star. Oroua & Kiwitea Counties' Gazette. THURSDAY MARCH, 26, 1914. The Palmerston Spirit.

"We like that idea iv yesterday's Stab," said a district man, commenting on the suggestion m our issue of Tuesday that the time had come when Feilding should hive off from Palmerston, and develop big games for Feilding in cricket, football, and hockey. "And we intend taking up the suggestion," went on our caller, "by having a meeting of delegates to consider organising football for Feilding, instead of Palmerston. The country clubs, cricket as well as football, will hail the idea with delight." We take special notice of the above remarks becauase the Palmerston Standard has the temerity to chide the Star over our suggestion, introducing it with the following rude and crude sentence: "The Feilding Star appears to have become a strong supporter of parochialism, judging from the following slab from its columns yesterday: 'How long is Feilding going to provide sport for Palmerston for so little reward V " Then follows the full quotation, ending with the terrible tag: "Our contemporary's article is headed 'The Feilding Spirit,' which we can hardly think'is correct. Anyhow, it is an unfortunate selection." The Palmerston spirit, so far as long-suffering Feilding's experience has gone, is to take everything—men and money and big events —and give nothing in return. Nor has.it even occurred to the Standard to put in a sporting, big-brotherly word for Feilding. Yet it flings Parochialism at us! The Star stands for Feilding folks and interests first, last, and all the time, whilst the Standard would have us stand up and cheer for—Palmerston!
