OBITUARY.

MRS BUDD'S MOTHER. Mrs Stevenson, whose death is chornicled in this issue, was one of the pioneers of the Dominion. She and her husband arrived in Dunedin from Ayrshire over 50 years ago.,, but were- attracted to Westland by the discovery of gold in that province. There she has resided ever since. Her husband was killed about 30 years ago in a mining accident, and left her with seven young children. She bravely faced her great task, and leaves behind her a record of faithful service. No worthy cause ever appealed to her in vain, and out of her little she gave ungrudgingly. Herdoor was open to all;" and no sooner did her caller enter than the hospitable teapot was in. evidence. Of her family, the oldest daughter, wife of the late Rev. 11. Stewart (Greymouth) predeceased her. The oldest son has been for some years headmaster of the Woodville District High School, while the second son is employed in the railway service. Mrs Budd (Feildiug)/ Mrs* Ker-r (Petone),. and Misses M. and E. M. Stevenson are the remaining daughters, and there are thirteen grandchildren. Her characteristics were sound common sense, intense hatred of shams, geniune piety, and true generosity. No neighbour ever appealed to her in, vain.
