YACHT PARTY'S ORDEAL. Auckland, January 6. • A yachting party had an unpleasant experience in the harbour, off Ponsonby. yesterday afternoon. A heavy squall struck the yacht, and it heeled over and the water rushed in. The crew managed to lower the mainsail, and the vessel righted itself to some extent,. but members of the party state that if it had not been for the i water-tight compartments the yacht ■ would most probably havo sunk. The I wind continued to blow with great * force, but, sailing under practically' j bare poles the little craft managed 1 to reach Cox's Creek, where the par- J ty, consisting o.f four ladies and three ( men, effected a landing. < The experience was" a very trying ' one, especially for the ladies, one of \ whom tainted and had to be carried 1 ashore.
