A BIG DEMONSTRATION, WITH ORDERLY CROWDS.

The Waihi Band and members of the Fire Brigade (in fancy costume) are attending the strikers' sports meeting, the gathering numbering over one thousand. • Mr Scott Bennet (Socialist lecturer) is expected here this afternoon to address a crowd. At 11.30 a monster, procession formed in the main street and marched to the recreation ground. The crowd was perfectly orderly and for the most part, appeared not to realise the gravity of the situation. It rather had the appearance of a big holiday making crowd under prosperous conditions. Air Donaldson on behalf of the Hospital Board proceeds to Wellington to night to ask the Government for assistance for the institution if the strike continues. A great number of children remained from the public schools to attend with their parents the strikers' sports meeting. The few attending tho schools were given a half holiday. THE POSITION AT HUNTLY. The Herald's Huntly correspondent teleo-raphs as foliows *.—The executive of the W-aikato Miners' Union met tonight, presumably •to consider the communication from the directors of the Taupiri mines, asking for an explanation of a portion of the letter sent to them on Thursday by the Union. THREATENED TROUBLE. The Herald's correspondent at Paeroa telegraphed to-day as follows: — Tliere was little trouble in Paeroa this morning over the carting ot coal to the Extraction Company's works. An employee of Dean Bros, was loading coal at the railway station, when he was warned by some of the officials of the Waihi Miners' Union that there would be trouble if the coal was carted. As it was some of the coai that had been sent to Waihi for the Waihi G.AI. Company and railed hack to Paeroa for the Extraction Company Mr J- Dean was communicated with, and he decided to- go on with the carting, and so far the trouble has not eventuated. Between 30 ana 40 non-unionists have been loosing for work at the Extraction Company's works during, the past three or four days, but without success.
