MATCH AGAINST SURREY

The county team batted first, and scored 131. Bird (76), Harrison (25) and Hayes (14), were the only double-figure batsmen. Whitty took 'four wickets for 43, and Emery six for 54. The Australians have lost five wickets for 102. Gregory scored 2, Mayne 4, Macartney (not out) 57, Bardsley 22, Jennings 11, and Keliiway 0. Macartney gave a skilful display, and made some attractive leg strokes. Rain interrupted the game" several times during the day. SOUTH AFRICA v. YORKSHIRE. London, May 16. South Africa batted first in the match with Yorkshire. Three wicketwere down for 26 when rain stopped play for the day.
