THE WOODVILLE MEETING.

Woodville, February 22,

At the second day of the Woodville autumn meeting the attendance was good and the speculation brisk, the sum of £9536 being put through the machine, making £19,605 for the meeting. This is £4317 in excess of the corresponding meeting last year. Results:—

Kumeroa Hack Handicap.—lneuru. 1, Glenlern 2, Lepuki 3. Time, 1.2 2-5.

Second Hack Hurdles.—Waiputere 1, Stevens 2, Merrie Lad 3. All started. At the back of the course Eiya, who was leading, stumbled over a hurdle and fell, and Sapience fell over him. W. Young, the rider of Eiya, had his collarbone broken, but the other rider (Shiele) escaped injury. After the accident Waiputere took the lead and won by two lengths. Time, 2.54. Ballance Hack Welter.—Bonnie Boy 1, - Moahau 2, Field Faro 3. Fashion Plate was scratched. When the tapes were lifted Blent stumbled and threw his rider. Prince Eddie and Field Fare raced together into the straight. Bonnie Boy came through and won by a length, a short head between second and third. Time, 1.31 2.5.

Autumn Handicap.—Seatoiidale 1, Bally Shannon 2, Merrie Emerald 3. Golden Loop was scratched. . This was a splendid race. British Maid, accompanied by Merrie Emerald, led the field for three parts of the distance. There was a desperate struggle down the straight, Seatoiidale getting the best of it and winning by two lengths, half a length separating the second and third. Time, 1.57. ■ '

Shorts' Handicap.—Altcar 1, Rangiatua 2, Full Rate 3. Scratched: Longstep and Ineuru. Altcar. got away with a lead, was never headed, and won .by a good length. Time,

Hack Scurry.—Lord Renown 1, Asternoun 2. Letes 3. Scratched:! Miss Jean, Miss Roberts, and Wai. rato. Mill banks was left at the poet, aiid Crown Battery lost his rider after racing a couple of furlongs. Missile led the field for half the journey. When the horses were bunched in the straight Lord Renown shot out and won by a good length. .Time, 1.4 1-5. Maharahara Handicap.—Meremere 1, Eclogue 2, Matlow 3. Composed wa s scratched. Matlow led the field well into tho straight, when he -was challenged by Meremere and Eclogue the former getting the verdict by a neck, a length dividing second and third. Time, 1.53 1-5.
