ADDINGTON MARKET.

[per press association.]

Christchurch, December 13. At Addington there were fairly good entries of stock and an average attendance. Fat cattle were easier. Prime fat lambs were firmer and store sheep of the best class sold up to last week's rales. Fat wethers were firm but owes were somewhat easier. There was a good demand for pigs and store cattle.

Sheep.—The j'arding of store .sheep was larger than last week and there was practically no change in the price of good sheep, but those in low condition did not sell so freely. Two tooth ewes made 12s 6d to los, fourtooth ewes los 10' dto 16s 3d, four and six tooth wethers los, hoggets lis to 13s lOd. The yarding of fat lambs toil ailed 1476, which was the largest number offered this season and the sale was interesting from the fact that export buyers commenced operating. The lambs were of excellent quality both as to si„e and condition and the exporters confined themselves chiefly to heavy weight lambs and they took between four and five hundred. The purchases were made with a view to catching the next steamer and they operated the more keenly on account of the keener demand that is likely to exist at next week's sale for the local Christmas trade. Prime lambs were consequently firmer than last week and made 15s to 18s 6d and lighter 12s to 14s Gd, inferior sorts being easier. The range of prices for lambs purchased for export was 13s to 17s 3d. There was a fairly large yarding of fat -beep, which proved to be.sufficient for requirements. The whole of the sheep with tihe exception oi ! one small lot were shorn and since the wool has been taken off they have considerably improved in condition, I few poor sheep being ffered. Wethi ers maintained their values, but ewes 'eased off somewhat towards the close lof the sale, when itibo butchers-had filled their requirements. One line of I wethers was purchased for export. The range of prices was prime wethers ' 17s 6d to 22s 6d, others 14s to 17s, prime ewes 16s to 21s 7d, others lis Gd to los 6d.

Cattle.—The number of fat cattle offered was 256 bead and the bulk was of good quality, the North Island being again well represented. Steer beef was easier, but cow and heifer beef showed little or no change, the range of values being 25s to 31s 6d. Steers made £7 los to £11 17s 6d, "heifers £5 17s 6d to £8 15s Gd, cows £5 5s to £9, extra to £10. Veal calves sold at 4s 6d to 45s according to size and condition. There was a good demand for the fine store cattle offered, a West Coast buyer operating.
