Wellington j January 30. " The High Commissioner cables on Saturday from London:— Mutton.—The market is dull, and trade of all classes has been slow. Prices have been barely maintained for North Island mutton.

Lamb.—The market is quiet as the result of heavy arrivals of New Zealand lamb. Canterbury, ojfcd; other than Canterbury, 5Jd ; Argentine, 4d.

Beef.—Th© market is firm, Stocks of New, Zealand on hand are light. N.Z. hindquarters, 3§d; forequarters, 3|d. Butter..—The market is very unsettled, buyers holding back expecting prices to go lower. A large supply is on hand. Choicest N.., 105s; Australian, 101s; Danish, 115s; Siberian, 100s.

Cheese.—The market is firm, with

a good demand. Coloured, 60s; 'white, 58s. ,„ , -,- Hemp.—The market is .mat, and there is scarcely any demand, prospects being unfavourable. N.Z. good, fair, on spot, £19 10s; fair .grade, £19; fair, current Manila, £18 10s; forward shipments of N... good, fair, £19 10s; fair grade, £19 ss; fair, current Manila, £19. The output for the (week from Manila was 28,000 Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is quiet, with buyers not keen to do business. Average price for bright clean N.Z., weighing 171b per bushel, on spot, 735. Wool. —The market is firmer, and confidence is again returning. The poultry market'is unchanged. Chickens, American 8d to 9d, Russian 7£d to BJd, Ducklings 6d to 7d per lb.
