The Feilding Star. Oroua and Kiwitea Counties' Gazette. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 1910. The Mayor's Speech.

The general opinion at the close of the valedictory speech given by Mayor Trewin at the Drill Hall last night was that it was the best address on local municipal matters ever given in Feilding. That was a large statement to make, but it was'made by men who have grown up with the town, and they ought to know. Certainly, Mr Trewin was in "good form, he had a good subject, with .ample material, and lie made good use. of them. It was a distinct compliment that for hie farewell speech he should have as good an attendance, on a very cold night and in an absolutely unsuitable building, as did the candidates in the contest which is proceeding to-day. His Worship gave a clear and capital review of the borough's affairs, and he impressed his hearers with his explanation of the part he had played in the making of the borough during the past four years. There was no discordant note at the meeting, and Mr Trewin will go out of office with the echo of the prolonged applause with which the vote of thanks for his services was carried last night still in his ears, and with an assurance on his own and the ratepayers' part that he gave Feilding of his best and was its devoted servant throughout his successive terms of office. No man can hope to receive greater approval or more appreciation from himself and his fellows than that. As Mr Trewin is still a young man and has all the ambition of a New Zealander, he will undoubtedly be heard from again; and it will stand to his credit in the future that before vacating the Mayoval chair in Feilding he gave a very satisfactory account of his stewardship.
