FURTHER RESULTS OF COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

I Smce the Star went to press yestor day afternoon another batch of ; reports of the School Committee meetings held on Monday ni'ah't have come to hand. ! 'APITI. / i.ie ■householders' meeting was very well attended, twenty-seven bcin-r present., Mr F. S. Guy was voted to the chair. The balance-sheet showed the receipts to be £24 Is 4d and the expenditure £23 17s 7d. The outgoing Committee reported that its meetings during the year were well attended, and Dr. Gregory had occupied the chair in an efficient manner. The school and ground wove in good order, improvements haviiv been effected. The annual school concert again proved a pronounced success, but Arbor Day had lapsed owing to the shortage of funds. Miss Jameson had given every satisfaction as assistant teacher. Arrangements have been made to periodically scrub the school with Jeyes , Fluid' and everything has been done to keep the school and buildings in a sanitary condition. A resolution was carried unanimously protesting against the action of the Government in reducing the building maintenance grants to IMucatiou Boards and also the special capita- | tion .grant of 9d epr head to School I Committees. 1 It was moved by Mr Malcolm and seconded by Mr Gibson: "That the Minister of Education be approached asking that universal school books be used, and children be allowed to take the same home, or, as an alternative, that a sufficient supply be procurable at booksellers so that parents can buy books if necessary."—Carried unanimously. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr McKay (secretary), Mr Duncan (treasurer), Dr. Gregory (chairman), Mr Bennett (auditor), and to members of the outgoing committee. STXNWAY. The annual meeting was held in the schoolroom.- The balance-sheet" showed a credit of £5 17s 7d. The Chairman, Mr G. C. Wheeler, announced his intention of retiring from the position which they had honoured him with for twenty-five years. He did so only because other duties . aecessitated frequent absence, and ho j thought that an excellent teacher such as the school now had deserved ) the constant assistance and support ol a chairman, who should always be on the spot. Regarding the missing account book, he wished to say that for 25 yeare he had always sent the accounts to the secretary of the Education Board for audit,'but he thought that the work of the office had so much increased that that officer no longer had time to quickly audit the books of so many schools. Last year it was over six months before the books were returned; they came in detachments, and now the account book could not be found; he therefore advised the Committee to appoint another auditor, resident, say, in Feilding. Before retiring, he wished to thank the Committees with whom he had so long worked, and who had lightened his work so much. It was they Who had done most of the work of organising treats and socials; and as the funds of the school depended upon the success of these entertainments for their income, the present credit balance was in great measure due to these gentlemen. He and his would continue to take the same interest in the school as in the past, and he was pleased to know that it was in the hands of so efficient a teacher. The following Committee was elected: Messrs T. Callingham, Clark, J. Marshall, G. Thorby, E. Marshall, T. P. James, C. Callingham. Mr Grant Thorby was unanimously elected chairman. KAKARIKI. . Only two householders turned up to the meeting, and consequently no School Committee was elected.
