A FALSE DECLARATION.
Wellington, April 27. Edwin _ Phillips was fined £100 in the Magistrate's Court for making a false declaration regarding un-Cus-tomed goods. . The defendant pleaded guilty, but urged mitigating circumstances, the matter having been due to inadvertence. The Magistrate said the case was one for a minimum penalty, so he fined the defendant. £100, and then reduced it to £25.
