Roar-Admiral Bacon, speaking at the Institute of Naval Architects, said that the problem of torpedonroof battleships had so far proved insoluble. Th« battle- unit of the future would probably consist of single battleships, with ii complement of torpedo boats of high seagoing speed ~ offensive, and defensive satellites. V i#iting would be in the shape of aggregation duels between these ,battle units. The John Brown Company (Clydebank), and the Fairfield Comrumy (Gowan) each contracted for tire Australasian battleship. Sir George Reid. High Commissioner for Aiistra-la. and the Hon. W. Hall-.fionos, High CoTmnissionor for £ew Zealand, had an interview with the Admiralty at which they formally agreed to contracts for the construction of warships e-n behalf of the Governments of Australia and New Zealand.
