A little more business has been passing but without furnishing I any steadiness in prices, which are now about kl per lb lower than last week. Only North Islands are being offered and these are selling at 3kl to 3kl per lb for all weights. The moderate stocks are iii numerous hands. South American Mutton.—There have arrived during the week the Highland Watch with Hi.824 carcases, Hermione G. 987 carcases, Drayton Grange about IG,OOO carcases, and Amiral Janroguiberry 0.36G carcases. The value of this mutton is also weaker, with indications of a downward tendency. Quotations do not exceed o',d to ;Y*d per 11). and the former ligure is prevalent on provincial markets. Australian .Mutton. —Arrivals consist of Peshawur 2.2G2 carcases, Marniora_4/)12 and Miltiades 10,420 carcases. Values have been fairly well maintained. A few i.hoice crossbreds of small weight command up to 3kl per lb. but average quality ran be bought at 3d to 3id per lb, and plain ewes are selling down to 2ijd per lb. Frozen _ lamb. —Receipts comprise about- 08.720 carcases from New Zealand, 13,405 carcases from Australia, and 7.000 carcases from South America. Now season's New Zealand lambs are scarce at the moment, and prices up to ojd per lb have been made for small quantities available. Buyers are finding some difficulty in ■covering their leqnir-enients for early forward delivery. Old sea-son's lamb's are selling slowly at- about 33d per lb.
