The Feilding Star. Oroua and Kiwitea Counties' Gazette. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1910. Cricket and Swimming.
Jt is to be regretted that tlic Manat watu Cricket Association again ; could not see its way to give the ! Feilding Club a day off (next Saturday) in order that our cricketers , could patronise the swimming earni- : val. On occasions already Feilding folks have conduclted carnivals in aid of local cricket facilities, and the | cricketers wci - e not able to actively ! participate in the man agon ent of the | affairs. We think the Feilding olid; | should now take the matter "in its ! own hands and declare for the local ! engagement first. Even if this meant ! the forfeiting of next Saturday's . contest in the championship round, | what matters it? All the Pahnersi clubs, have losses registered j against them a.nd Poilding is easily |in the lead. Government from Palmi erstoii for Feilding affairs should no j longer be allowed. If our cricketers j arc to furnish a counter attraction •to an important local ' engagement ! how can they reasonably expect j other sportsmen in town to' \ le lp | cricket in its time of need? We are | just as much disgusted with the lack | of loyalty shown by the Fejlding Disi tnet Cricket Association in arraiigi ing a ma-teli for Saturday uext on j the South Street Reserve.
