OVERSEER'S KEPOKT. iir Hickford reported upon the works in progress and works completed on the roads for January: — Sandon Riding.—Very little has been done in this riding during the month beyond the usual road maintenance work. A good deal ol work has been done on Jones' line in the shape of battering down the sides of clra.ui and planting it with willows. In reference to Mitchell's and .Uiingj Bros.' contract for constructing xr a 1 1 , 1 .1 on - Sa . nc V a y line > near Foxton, Mr Mitchell informed , me- that he would not go back to the contract, and as far as lie was concerned, the Council could cancel it. Mr Behrent is making, good progress with his contract of grading and claying the sand hill on "No. 2 line I would suggest to the Council that the sand hill near the creamery on tins line, opposite Mr Brown's house be graded and clayed. It is with 'great difficulty that settlers can climb this i-oad with a load. The cost would be approximately £40. Tramway.—The linemen and additional casual labour have been employed during the month taking up the old 281b rails.and laying clown heavier ones. This work has been completed up to the track laid down last year There is yet a good deal or work to be done in bringing the line up to the proper- level.
