Gould, asking for the footpath to be formed and the kerbing and channelling completed in fiont of his property in Fergusson street.— lf ef erred to Works Committee. From the Clerk, Onnia County Council, stating his Council, was considering the question of purchasing ;i .steam roller and scarifier, and asking if there was any probability oi the Borough Council' wishing to hire the machine. The charge would he £2 10s per dav, including driver, and it was suggested the Council should promisf to hire the roller for 2o days each year.— Cr. Tolley proposed that the Council offer to' hire the machine as requested. . Seconded -by- Cr. CJoodbehere, both councillors speaking strongly in favour of the machine for the improvement of the streets which would be effected. . The motion was carried, subject t<: n. satisfactory agreement being arrived at Avith the county. From Mr Henry Bray, stating he was willing the Council should divert watercourse on Makino road it they would fill in the corner— Tlie Mayor seated the work had been completed. The letter Avas received. WOHKS COMMITTEE'S KKI'OHT. The Works Committee reported a;--follows- . . . „ Your Committee visited Montagu'; Street in company with Mr Randall and interviewed Mr Clnphnm, whose boundary fence is on the street me. The report was adopted. BOROUGH MAINTENANCE. Mr J. Rankin reported as lows:---J hereby have the honour to report that, in accordance with the Council's instructions, 1 have had an inspection made of the house services connected with the borough waterworks, and 1 am pleased to t>tatc that such inspection has proved that, with a few exceptions, the private service and uttinjis within the borough are in good order, and in conformity with the water by-laws. I herewith attach plumber's report containing particulars of exceptions mentioned. Randall sent thu following report: — Good progress is being made with work on contracts. Re instructions given me by Works Committee to put metal on road at llh> intersection of streets, I would like, further instructions as to Avhether I shall arrange with T. Lynch and Co. to do this work in Derby Street, as well as on their present contra; t. Mr .lones, the contractor lor the kerbing ami channelling on Aorangi and other streets, has made- an offer lo form up the roads at 9s per chain. li' this work is carried out, it will be necessary to have a dray to work in connection with the road formation, nn odd occasions, to remove- surplus soil. T. Lynch and Co. have offered to construct a 2x2 concrete culvert in Montague Street, together with two retaining Avails, for the sum of 432 10s. 'A. saving of £13 will be effected on the- length of kerbing.
