Tin- lollowing business, in addition | to that reported in yesterday's Star. was transacted at yesterday's meeting of the General Committee of tho Manawatu A. and V. Association: — THE A. AND l\ SCHOLAKSHiP. Mr i<\ D. Opic, director of the , iechnieal School, wrote with regard to the recommendation that the Lincoln College Scholarship oi £20 per annum should bo used to assist the Technical School at l'liliiiurston North, and suggesting that the money be used in either of the following ways: — (I > Tlireo one-yearly scholarships ol" £(i per annum or one scholar.ship tenable for three- years; (2) a coarse of lectures during the year. Tho y.-ut-ly schoilu rships, he suggested, should bo open to farmers' .sons only, an entrance -examination to he conducted by the A. and I. Committee in November of each year ; the examination to be oral, and based oii^ a general knowledge oi i'arin work. Th-e 'alternative course was that the association grant ■4 subsidy of £20 per annum to the Technical School towards the expense of a course of practical lectures on the lollowing subjects: Veterinary science, general agriculture, agricultural chemistry, dairy stock, and sheep and sheep-breeding. Mr Cohen stated he did not agree with rlie scheme as laid down, and he would like the ru'iing of the committee as to whether the prime element in the scheme should be that it be (Diilincd 1:> members ol tho association only, oil the ground that if there were fanners who were interested who were not members they ought to be. Mr Jacob moved that the matter be referred to last year's sub-commit-tee to report at the next meeting. He stated that the proposition had merely been a suggestion, and not a recommendation. The motion was carried.GENERAL. Accounts totalling £193 0s 7d were passed fur payment. VACANCIES ON THE COMMITTEE. Mr J . M. Johnston moved that Messrs D. Thomas and J. Balsillie l)o elected to lill the vacancies on the General Committee caused by the appointment of Mr Aldworth as a vicepresident and the esignation of Mr ■j. T. Lang. Mr Jacob moved that it be an instruction to tho Schedule Committee that the prize money be "not increased this year. Mr Hodder moved as an amendment \ that the prize money be ctit down by £'•50 or more. He held that they were paying away more money than they were justified in doing j they were, in fact, paying away more than any association of the kind in Australasia in proportion to the receipts. Last year only a small profit had been made and it was possible that next year matters would bo no bettor. He was of the opinion that the show would not lose any of its popularity if the prize money were cut down by £50 or even £100. Mr Wheeler trusted the amendment would not be carried. He held that tho saving of £50 wag a mere bagatelle as compai'erl with the income of the Association. Mr Mcßa'e thought a number of the classes could be cut out of the catalogue with advantage. The amendment was seconded by Mr Arbon and carried. An application was received from Mr J. Jones for the use of the A. and P. Association's horse boxes, for each of which he offered 5s during the races. — The application was refused. ■ The secretary was authorised to get a printed list of members who had fallen out of the Association during the past year and have it circulated among members of the committee.
