ON MAKING AND PAYING FOR CROSSINGS.

TO THJS RDITOII. Sir,— AH low me to protest against ilie bare-faced robbery that our Borough Council are going in tor. I'm- surely it is nothing better to Jig up thi- approach to a ratepayer s gateway and then send him a letter thiu if* he wants a cart crossing he must sign an agreement to • pay 2os! Surely this is a bit sharp. T;lie Council must be suffering from a swollen head. If uioney so free that the rote payers have 25s to throw away for each crossing? And then the untairm>s>? of (he matter. Why should Bo wen street owners pay and Manchester street, King .street, and Kimbolton road, go free? Is it a case of us beiiiK robbed to pay for Kimbolton road, etc? I thought we had honest men running the show. But 'nuff sed. However, the sufferers are not going to take such iniquity without a protest. Why not use the good heart of total' a taken up from the kerbing? This would last for years for most crossings. The whole matter, to my mind, is a mean, dirty business. If this was passed by resolution of the Council, 'how is it we do not get it in your report of the meeting P Is it one of the dark deeds the Council have kept back to force at the last minute? I feel sure the Council must replace what they destroy, and if taken into court no judge would uphold them. I am, etc., Indignant Ratepaykr.
