The JSew Zealand Marathon Race, from Ho wick to Auckland, a distance of IJ3 mile.s, run iiuler the auspices of the- Auckland Amateur Athletic Club, aws decided here yesterday in the hofc> test of weather. Tlio event created tremendous interest and should do much to revive amateur athletics in Auckland. Of iho forty-two nominated, 22 started, including M. Dickson and E. W. Shanahan (Cliristchurch), M. Mulcahy and F. Wilton (Wellington), S. W". Moore (Rakaia). W. K«ary (Ballarat), and W. Wilshaw (Manchester, England). The road was dusty, with number^ of loose stones and die presence of numerous vehicles on the road made running unpleasant. Diekson. after loading for seven miles, laid down when still lending, finally finishing eighth.
