! — ♦ A I'OLITiOAL CHALLENGE. Alii MASSIiY v. THE PREMIER. [I»EH PUESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, March 5. Air Alassey intimated to a Herald reporter to-day, that he would accept Sir J. Ward's challenge to prove his (Mr Massey's) recent charges against the Government methods. The charges pricipally referred to are as follows: — (1) That suggestions had been made at the elections to the effect* that certain districts would be more likely to benefited by public expenditure if those districts were represented by Government supporters, rather than Oppositionists. (2) That systematic attempts were made at the elections by members of the party of which Sir Joseph Ward is leader, to libel and misrepresent Opposition candidates and Opposition members of the last and preceding Parliaments.
