Contract No. 5, for regrading" a small hill and gravelling Mackay's line, has been commenced, and I expect the contractors to make a start at tjie gravelling early next week. Contract No. 9, for the supply of about 550 yds of gravel on the Water, shed, Feilding-Ashhurst, and Ulysses roads, has been commenced. Contract No. 2, for the supply of about 2000 yds. of gravel on Grove road North, and contract No. 3, for the supply of about 1500 yds. of gravel on Greenhow's road, have been completed satisfactorily. I have inspected Pharazyn's road as instructed and find that there are about 60 chains of road formed but not gravelled and about 36 yards of road formed and only lightly gravelled. I estimate that to gravel this road so as to connect with the gravelled portion of Sour road there will be "required about 1200 yds. of gravel at a cost of about 2s 6d per yard completed making a total coat of about £150. The work of completing the formation of Kelvin Grove Toad is proceedine satisfactorily. The roadman for No. 6 riding reoorts that the decking of a small bridge on the Feilding-Ashhurst road is in rather a dangerous state, and reouires renewing.
