CRICKET, MANAWATU UNION CONTEST. FEILDING v. UNITED. On Saturday the Manawatu competition match, Feilding v. United, rt-as commenced on the South-street reserve. The day was fine, and suitkl to good cricket . The visitors went first to the wickets, and .after making a poor display were disposed of for an even three dozen. Bartholomew, without receiving any help From tho wicket, bagged seven wickets for 13 runs, six of the batsmen being clean bowled. Cobbe took two wickets, the team flatting a man short. The Feilding team made a baa start. In Bartlett's first over Bartholomew got himself out l.b.w. for a "duck," and McLean .was caught behind tho wicket off his wrist, also without scoring . Two wickets for no runs was little short oT disastrous. Ongley and Trevena, who had played havoc with the bowlers on the previous Saturday, then became associated, but Ongley. had made only seven wlien he was smartly, caught in the slips by Bartlett off "Wells. Trevena and Brennand made a good stand, the former scoring 21 before he was dismissed, and Brennand was bowled by Bartlett for 14. Matters proceeded with little interest until Cobbe joined Power ninth wicket down. The score was then 48. Cobbo introduced the system of taking short runs, and, both batsmen playing with skill and a certain amount of good fortune, ran the score up to 87 before Power was bowled by Bartlett . Cobbe ran for anything and everything, showing how easy ft' is "to get runs 1 if the batsmen only keep awake. Cobbe's 6core included three fours. United had two wickets, down in tho second innings when stumps were drawn." Scores: — UNITED.— First Innings.
