DISTRICT COURT.

SOME BANKRUPTCY CASES. George Johnston Webster (Mr Richmond) applied for his discharge. The D.O.A. (Mr G. J. Scott) opposed the application, and His Honour adjourned the application sine die, with leave to re-apply when the preferential claim had been paid and some evidence given of a bona fide attempt to pay a dividend. John Hughey and Mary Hughey (Mr Fitzherbert) applied for a discharge, which was granted. Robert Cecil Cheeseman applied for his discharge. He explained to his Honour that he was at present employed as cook in his wife's boardinghouse at Tokomaru ; he was not strong enough to go out working. His Honour advised him to keep out of debt in future, and granted the application. Walter Axup (Mr Haggitt), whose discharge was adjourned from February last to give him an opportunity of paying some of his debts, was examined by his Honour. He said he was earning £80 a ...year managing a bush farm at Ohau, and had neen unable to pay anything off his liabilities. His Honour said he was not afraid of granting a. discharge to the applicant, hut he feared it might encourage. others to evade the bankruptcy law. However, he would grant the discharge, and would watch others with increased vigilance.
