THE GRAIN MARKET.

There continues an active inquiry foi* wheat, says a message from Oamaru. A good quantity oould be readily placed, were it obtainable, but there is practically no wheat left in the district. During the week a fairsized parcel of Tuscan and Velvet, mostly the former, was secured at 4s 4d at a oountry station, and fox a good line of Velvet 4s 5d,,11e56 commission, at a country station, was readily given. Other small sales indicate an -advance m prices, but great difficulty would be experienced in getting a thousand sacks at -any figure in Noo-th Otago. Oats move very slowly, but stocks held here axe light. A parcel of Gartens of milling quantity was Obtained at ls 6d net at a oountry station, and sales fox shipment have been made at Is 3d f.ob., for iprim-e Gartons. New potatoes are now being dug more freely, and there are indications that the retv yeai* will see a marked weakening oi prices.
