RONGOTEA.

OOK OWN COB.fIBSPONDENT.I A very pretty wedding took place last AVednesday, the contracting parties being Miss Amy Dear, fourth daughter of Mr George Dear, of Rongotea, and*. Mr Francis Yarrall, fourth son of Mr Henry -Yarrall, Napier. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. D. B. F. Carlisle, assisted by the Rev. P. J. Cossum, The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Emily Dear, and Mr StanIcy Hunt acted as best man. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and the party looked charming in their wedding attire. After the ceremony, the company repaired to the residence of the bride's parents, where a varied and ample repast was spread. Everyone heartily enjoyed the good things provided, and after the ceremonious cutting of the cake, the following toasts were honoured: "The bride and bridegroom," Rev. Carlisle, responded to by the bridegroom; "the bridesmaid," by Mr Hight, responded to by Mr "Hunt; "the bride's parents." Mr Broadbelt, responded to by the Rev. P. J. Cossum; "the bridegroom's parents," responded to by Mr Yarrall. A thoroughly enjoyable time was spent. In the evening the happy couple left for Feilding, en route to Napier, where they will spend the honeymoon. Mr and Mrs Yarrall are to reside at Utiku. We are sorry to lose them from our midst, but wish them a long and happy future. - / The Christmas celebrations were not of an elaborate kind, Messrs Landers and Amesbury Bros, being tbe only ones who went. to the trouble of decorating to any extent. Christmas Eve was very quiet, and excepting for the noise of crackers it differed little from an ordinary Saturday evening. Still business seems to be solid, and a good trade has been done. Mr J. Gould, draper, is soon to hold his stocktaking sale. Amesbury Bros, bave just concluded a successful job sale, and Messrs Lander Bros, are offering some great bargains. A very pleasant social function was held in the Primitive Methodist Church last Friday evening, the occasion beinc a presentation to Miss Amy Dear from tbe church Sunday School, and Cbrist'an Endeavour wbo united for the gift. Complimentary stie-pcbes were madp by Messrs Broadbelt, Harris (2). Glover, and Aliss Rilev. nnd ort behalf of her friends the Rev. Carlisle presented Dear with n. handsome silver teapot in rcoogTiit-V-T- of tbe many r<-*rv ; eGs Tendered. Mr Hunt renlied on bobalf of Miss Dear.
