Fisher. ~^~~ i For the Feilding Athletic Club's thirty-third annual sports meeting on Boxing Day thero was good weather, a large crowd, big fields, and close finishes. The gate receipts— £85 Is for the outside gates and £44 13s 6d for the lawn— were not so great as last year, but the increased acceptances will bring the total takings to last year's, and altogether the sports were successful from every point of view. A long programme was carried out with promptness and satisfaction, and the finishes in almost every event were as close as could be reasonably expected. This should be a source of satisfaction to Mr J. Collingwoodj the handicapper and to the Club. All the officials worked hard all day, and to Mr E. H. Fisher, the Secretary, much credit is due for the orderly way in which everything had. been arranged for the meeting ; while a word of praise is due to the ladies who took charge of the luncheon booth and conducted it in the interests of the Club. Of the racing, it may be said that a great deal of interest was taken in the various events. Mexted's win in the half-mile, and L. Ward's win in the Manchester Handicap, were popular ones. The latter has competed in the mile race for ten years at the Feilding sports, and Saturday's was his first win. There were several close finishes in the cycle races, and tEe win of Campbn m the three-mile event showed that the rider was of strong staying and finishing powers. In the horse events, which were all . good, the most popular item was the girls' pony jumping and it is a pity there were not more entries. Dolly Steward, wh-> rodo the first and second horse: was complimented by the judge and applauded by the spectators for bur splendid handling of the ponies, and the , other riders were also applaucbd fcr the 'way in which they put their mounts over the hurdles. The Feilding Brass Band was in attendance during the day, and rendered a programme of music which helped to make the outing an enjoyable one.
