Wellington, December 21. The following is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London, December 19: — The mutton market is depressed. There is dull sale of all qualities, although stocks of New Zealand mutton on hand are light and are firmly held in a few hands. Current quotations: Canterbury mutton 3|d, North Island 3£d, River Plate 3£d. The lamb market is quiet with scarcely any demand. Australian lamb is in large supply, only the best quality being saleable. Current quotations: Canterbury lamb 6Jd> other than Canterbury, 4|d, Australian 4jd. * The beef market is dull, and the .supply exceeds the demand. Hindquarters are quoted at 3Jd and forequarters at 3d. Quotations for New Zealand beef are nominal. The butter market is weaker, and prices are slightly lower. Buyers are holding back expecting prices to go lower. The current quotations are: Choicest New Zealand 110s, Australian 106s, Danish 114s, Argentine 105, Siberian 103 per cwt. The cheese market is quiet owing to poor demand. New Zealand makes are quoted at 58s per cwt. The hemp market is lifeless. Quotations for all positions : Good fair grade, £25 ; fair grade, £23 ; fair current manila £24 15s. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 23,---000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is very .dull, quotations being 78s nominal for bright clean 171 b seed. Long berried wheat on the Spot, ex Granery, per quarter of 4961bs 37s 6d, short-berried 36s 6d, nominal. Sparrow-bill oats (short), ex Granery, on the spot per quarter of 3841bs 245. New Zealand oats (Danish), ex Granery. on th© spot per quarter of 3201bs 16s 6d. New Zealand beans, f.a.0., (old crop) per 5041b5, 325. The market is firm for New Zealand partridge peas, per 5041b5, 425, New Zealand peas, blue, 34s 6d. The wool market is quieter. Current quotations for Bradford tops: 36's low orossbreds 10|d, 40's low crossbreds ll^d, 44's medium crossbreds Is o}d, 50's halfbreds Is 4Jd, 56' s quarterbreds Is 6|d, 60's merinos Is lid. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., Feild r ing office report on sale held Friday: We had a small yarding of sheep, and a fair one of cattlle. There was a good attendance, and prices were on a par with last weeß's rates. With the exception of one pen of steep, we quitted the whole of our entry at satisfactory prices. Quotations: — Shorn ewes and lambs, 7s 6d, 10s 7 d, 12s 4d to 13s id ; 2-toofch wethers, 10s 4d, lls to Us 6d.
