Notes and Comments.

Yesterday we had a note upon the American-like desire of the French race to claim the licking of creation in all things pertaining to something new. There may be room for disputing the claim regarding postcards, but here is something unusual that France may be proud of : M. and Mme. Cardon celebrated their •'platinum" wedding — the seventyfifth anniversary of their marriage — in Paris on October 14. The wedding breakfast was held in the same house where they celebrated their wedding and their silver, golden, and diamond weddings. M. and Mme. Cardon have two children, both of whom are unmarried. The- ages of all four together amount to 312 years. In another column a correspondent ("C.C.8.") makes an effort to awake another body of sleepers in the municipal area. Our correspondent does not seem to be aware that he had joined us in knocking at the door of the Borough Council Chambers ; for the Committee of the Library is representative of the Council, which body makes the appointment of the Committee. "C.C.8." is not the first to make complaint against the management of the Library. One person has appealed to us to have a dog removed because that animal lias all the privileges of a constant suljscriber and creates a continual nuisance. Another complainant desired us to send out a search party to look for the members of the Committee, as they were reported to have been lost or mislaid. "We are not up to date with the books" said another subscriber, who seemed to think that it was the duty of the Committee to wait at the book publisher's desk and get the hooks hot from the press. Perhaps this note will discover the Committee and effect the reform that complainants desire.
