uOUII OWN COitU£SPONl)KN'l'.i Tiie ilalooiuljo School Committee met oji Saturday evening. Present: j Messrs A. U. iiurcham (chair), Adam, noli, JvlclJilroy, and Thomas. Mr <i-as. Adam was appointed supervisor ; at the annual examination for pron- ' ciency certificates, lield on Wednesday last. A report was read from the head master (Mr Robson) on the conduct of a boy attending the school. Tho matter was satisfactorily dealt with, by the Committee in the best interests of the school. The enthusiastic way in wludi Mr M. Kew's scheme for the improvements to the Recreation Ground vas received and adopted must ha/c cheered even that gentleman's heart. Mr A. Burchani occupied the ch«n and called upon Mr Kew to outline his scheme. Mr Owen McElroy agreed to proceed with ' ; c drainpioughing as soon as time was opportune. This gentleman also otlerod 1< supply as a voluntary contribution timber for various buildings. Mr Mclilroy's kind offer was accepted with thanks. An estimate was put before the meeting as to the cost of a small pavilion, and at this stage Mr Kew undertook to contribute £6 towards the cost, upon the public making good the balance. A committee of ways and means was appointed to meet at an early date to determine when the first of a series of concerts was to be held. I regret to learn tihat an old identity, in the person of Mr Jas. Pater- 1 son, father of Mrs John Morrison, passed away somewhat suddenly on Wednesday last. On Wednesday afternoon a ga-'der party was given to Miss Quarrie ly that lady's admirers. It was a fitting tribute to one who is universally esteemed here for her numerous yood qualities. Th© afternoon turned out bright and sunny for the function, and there were over 100 guests present at Miss Quarries home to do her honour. Afternoon tea was dispensed to the numerous friends on tie lawn and the time passed pleasantly away in social chat. Opp«vtunity was taken by Mr Burcham to eulopise Miss Quarrie. Mr E. Orabb alse spoke in flattering terms, as -lid aTso fche Reve. Walker and Clover. Mr I' (juarrie responded and thanked th<>so who by their presence had helped to make the gathering a success. The local Debating Club met on Vvednesday evening, when tho subject, "Which exercises the greatest influence for good — man or woman?" ivas contested by Mr McDonald for the men folk, and by Messrs Walker, w. McLennan, S. Managh, Dooley md Buroham for the ladies. I notice jut local Disraelis have a strong tenxency for questions relating to the rair sex. The next subject tie Sonety intend to put before their audience is a Court Case on the Ot^p?earance of the Christmas Goose.
