Education Board last night. Mr F. Brennard was appointed headmaster at Riverton. Cadet corps at Bulls and Raetihi were recognised. W. H. Harris, Hautapu, was granted £5 towards cost of removal. Leave of absence was granted to Mr I). H. Guthrie. A slight increase, to cover tho cost of timber, was granted to the contractor for school desks. The question of adding a headmaster's office to tho Lytton street school" was referred to the architect. Mr Chessweis's tender for Ngamatapouri residence was accepted under modified conditions. Authority was received from the Government to sell the Rata school site, and remove the school building. Authority was given for the erection of a bicycle stand at the Feilding Technical School. Instead of appointing a Commissioner at Rewa, it was decided to agree to a committee being set up. It was decided to endorse the action of the Auckland Education Board in protesting against a reduction in technical classes capitation. Government has granted £125 for improvement of the Cheltenham residence, and £350 for additions to Lytton street school. Medals are to be distributed to all pupils in public and private schools in the district on Dominion Day. Ono enterprising teacher applied for permission to act as insurance agent, but the Board would not listen to the voice of the charmer. The three retiring members of the Board — Messrs- Aldridge, Spurdle, and Fred. Pirani — are tho only ones nominated, so far. The Pohangina Committee reported on the result of a canvass for subscribers for technical rooms at Pohangina, and application will be made for a grant for building. Bennett reported comprehensively on necessary work at Jackeytown school, and ho was given authority to act with the committee in having his recommendations carried out. Tho finances show a credit balance of £80 on the general account, and £564 (inclusive of £946 advance on nest building grant) on the main : tenanoe account. The AVanganui Technical School shows a temporary deficit of £1041. Tho Education Department, in a reply to a request to vest the Board's office site in the Board, stated that a verification of tho particulars furnished by the Board would be a difficult task, and it was decided to supply tlie information available. A request from the Hawke's Bay Board for the services of Mr Brown | or Mr Grant for a fortnight to give technical instruction- to teaohers on agriculture and dairying in September was referred to the Chief Inspecfo with power to arrarige for Mr Grant to go. Mr Lacroix, of Taihape, : wrote asking if the Utiku School Committee had power to refuse the use 'of the school for religious instruction, and it was decided to inform' him that the Committee had full control over the school building outside school hours. I The Taihape Committee forwarded | a guarantee to raise another £50 i towards the cost of the Technical School, and the Chairman reported : that instructions had been given to 'go on with the work. The Board decided to accept Mr Wilkinson's tender for the furnishing. i The Truant Officer reported that Mr Muggins had been fined at Manaia for the non-attendance of his son, with £5 Is costs. Mr Huggins wrote to the Board asking for instructions as to applying for an exemption certificate, and it was decided to supply the information. !
