SKATING CARNIVAL.
A PICTURESQUE GATHERING. There was a gratifying attendance at the Drill Hall last night for the Manchester Band's skating carnival, and the gay and varied costumes skimming over the floor made a pleasing animated picture. Prizes were awarded as follows: For best dressed lady, Miss Currie, "Folly," took first, and Miss Garlick. "Pierette," second; "Yellow Peril" (Mr Taylor) secured first for best dressed gentleman, and Mr B. Garlick ("Pierott") second. The best comic gentleman was Mr J. Osborne, " Clown," and Miss Matthews, "Biddy Malone," took the lady's prize for best comic. The first prize for best dressed child was won by Miss V. Matthews ("Fairy ">, with Miss N. Cameron ("AU Black") second. Amongst the other dresses worn were: Miss Pyke ("Spanish Danver"), Miss Harper ("Spanish Dancer"), Mrs Monteith ("Starlight"), and Mr J. Waddington ("Charley's Aunt"), Mr B. Jacobsen (" Grundy "), Mr W. Benson ("Naval Officer"), Mr J. Nansen ("Barrett's Barmaid"), Mr T. Ruthen ("Black Steward"), Mr A. Harding ("Jockey"), Mr H. Bunn ("Ned Kelly"), Mr H. Colman("Mrs Grundy"), Master Towler ("Flour Bag"). Mr J. Waddington won the potato race, with Mr Spiller second.; and Mr Spiller was the buccesful competitor in the half-mile race.
