WANGANUI PREBBVTERY. MEETING AT MARTON.

The usual bi-montMy meeting ol the above was held at Marton yesterday. There were present— Keys. Budd (Moderator), Morton, McCully, Ryburi, Gunn, Gordon Walk « r ' Ross, Jolly, Hutson, Fletcher, and Evans, and Messrs il"> ms o? 1 ' iv bo(> 1 "' Bell, Fraser, Graham, McDonald, Aitken and Bruce. It was arranged that a committee consisting of Revs. McCully, Ryburn, Morton, Ross and their elders confer re the Ohuroh Extension Committee's request for information that will guide it in disposing of the Man6on bequest. Mr Ryburn gave a verbal report ot the conference with the Taranaki Presbytery about ohuroh extension work in tho Ohura district, and it was agreed to leave Mr Mears in Ms present work for tho winter. The work about Taumaranui was being attended to by Mr Ward. . It was agreed to make Mr Gunn moderator of the Raetihi district, and of the work on the Main Trunk line. The plans for the Wenganui East Church had been approved of by the committee appointed to deal with them, and a contract for the building let. The new church, when completed, wili cost about £350. Things at Taihape are much as usual. The student emptloyed during the summer had left, and a Mr Faraar had been appointed in his place. It was agreed that Mr Faraar live at Utmu, and that a small cottage be erected for him there. Mr Ross expected to collect almost the whole of tho money required for the building. The work in Waitotara, Halcombe and Apiti was reported on. Revs. Jollly and Budd, with Messrs R. W. Brown and Frazer, were appointed a committee to consider and report on tho work in the Pohangina station. , ... , The Presbytery learned with deep regret that the Rev. J. McCaw, of Levin, had been compelled, owing to ill-health, to resign Ilia post. It was resolved to record tho Presbytery s appreciation of Mr McCaw's faithful and diligent labours, and to express tho hope that after a few months' rest, he might be restored to his usuaJ health. The Rev. J. White, who is resigning Pleasant Point charge in South Canterbury, was given the vacant position at Levin for one year. The new manse at Levin will be ready for occupation in Jully. An extended report from the i oxton station was submitted by Mr Jolly, moderator thereof. It showed a substantial increase in the attendances and in revenue. It was agreed to express satisfaction at the progress reported, and to congratulate tho missionary, Mr Aitken, upon his success. Mr Aitken and Mr R. B. MacKenzie, of Carnarvon, were heard on the subject of a proposed division of the Foxton district. They pleaded thai for the present it was desirable to preservo the status quo. A commission, consisting of Revs. Jolly, McCully and Budd (convener), with their elders, was set up to consider the whole matter. 'A general exchange of pulpits was arranged for in order to bring before congregations the need for church extension work. Mr Lennox, of Ohakune, having asked to be recommended to the Horn© Mission Committee for home mission work, it was agreed to recommend that he be received as a missionary at tho beginning of his course. A similar application was /received ,from Mr Aitken. The testimonialls and credentials submitted wero of the highest order, and it was agreed to recommend that Mr Aitken be placed on the list of homo missionaries in full standing. On tho motion of the Rev. R. McCully, a resolution was passed, expressing gratification at the recent reports from Oamaru on the success of no-license in that town, and at tire testimony of so many public men ji lnvercargiil to the benefits of no^r* cense there. Revs. Jolly, Budd, Evans and Gunn were appointed a committee to confer with the Rev. G. Jupp, agent for the Youth of the Church Committee, re his work within the bounds of the Presbytery. , It was agreed tat the Presbytery meet in Wanganui as Maori Mission Committee on April 16, at 11.30 a.m. The Presbytery adjourned to meet at Marton on tho first Tuesday in June.
