The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. MONDAY, MARCH 30, 1908. The Farmers' Conference.

j | It should be good news lor the mcml j bers of the Farmers' Union in this » ' district that the executive of the Wel- ' I lington Provincial Council has det cided that the next annual conference - of delegates shall bo held in Feilding. The date fixed upon is Tuesday, May " 26, and it is expected by the executive that the conference will be one of the largest that has yet been held in the province. This will mean a great deal to Feilding, because, apart from tho special interest that such a conference evokes in the district in f which it is held, even under normal 3 conditions there is the numerous 1 gathering of delegates. There will be, in consequence, a descent upon Feilding of representative farmers > from almost every district in a very 1 large province, the only part that will t not be represented by a delegate be- - j ing Wellington city. Previous conl ' feronces, which extended over sevei I ral days' sittings, have attracted i special attention from all sections of \ the community, because delegates disi cuss subjects that are not only of r direct interest to the agricultural and " pastoral industries from the practical and political points of view, but also questions of a wider scope. The first and most important thing for 1 Feilding to consider, however, in connection with the coming conference is the accommodation and entertainment of the large party of visitors. We think that the local branch should immediately take the matter of organising these affairß in hand at once. There is only a period of two months > within which to make preparations, and the committee of the local branch will be quite justified in calling to their aid local sympathisers and business men to help in the setting up of a Reception Committee. And not only should Feilding show its hospitality by honouring the visitors at a public gathering, but we would like to see the delegates given an opportunity of viewing the country that lies around this town. It should not be a difficult matter to organise a motoring tour, and we have no doubt that the owners of these speedy vehi--3 cles will be quite willing to render every assistance in this direction. We think that this is also a good subject . for the Mayor of the Borough and the Presidents of the Chamber of Commerce and the A. and P. Association to confer over; and if the suggestion meets with their approval, they will no doubt act with the promptness > that has marked their previous dealings with subjects that are of special i interest to their town and district.
