RANGITIKEI AND MANAWATU WINS. . Wellington, March 28. The polo championship tournament began at Miramar yesterday, when two West Coast teams won their games in the Savile Cup contest. Jiangitfkei defeated Wellington B by 13 to 1, and Manawatu defeated Christchurch by 8 to 4. j RANGITIKEI t. WELLINGTON. , Rangitikei was represented by G. •Wilson, K. Dalrymple, W. F. G. Wilson twice again, each notching goads. Then 11. Wilson took a hand and scored twice, and Dairyniple thrice. Finally Goring Johnston put the ball through for the city men, but Dalrymple came away with four successive goals. Altogether R. A. Wilson scored thrice, H. Wilson twice, Dalrymple seven times and Levin once, against the solitary Wellington score. For Wellington Skerrett and Cooper played well, but the country, men were much better mounted, rode better, and altogether played a much superior game. ! MANAWATU v. CHRISTCHURCH. j The Manawatu v. Christchurch heat proved a really good game. Both sides showed considerable dash, and the cool work of Levin and finesse of Strang were much admired. The teams were: Manawatu, H. Gifford Moore, W. B. Then a Christchurch man crossed in contravention of rulo 20, and Strang put the resultant free hit between the posts from the 60 yard mark. This gave his side ; the lead by 3to 2. Christchurch , came again, and Cowlishaw getting ' the ball made the scores 3 all, at which they remained till Giesen, beating all opposition, drove hard and made the finest goal of the day from far afield. Manawatu 4, Christchurch 3. During the rest of the game^Levin was a thorn in the side of the southerners, and frequently saved cleverly. The next score was made by Cowlishaw, but the level pegging was soon after at an end, as Levin, having Bhot for goal and hit a post, Strang came to the rescue and added to the Manawatu score.
