During a great demonstration of the unemployed, in Union Square, New York, on Saturday afternoon, an Anarchist hurled a bomb. The explosion killed one person and mortally injured the Anarchist. Mounted police rode down the mob, creating a panic. A crowd of 20,000, mostly women, carrying Anarchist banners anc wearing red caps, assembled, despitt the official refusal of a permit. Thej were about to enter Union Square when 180 mounted police sought t( disperse them. Selig Silverstein, a young Russiai Jew, attempted to hurl a bomb int< a group of 20 policemen. The fuse was too short, and th< bomb prematurely exploded, tearing off Silverstein's right arm, and killing a man named Beeonian, who was b& lieved to bo his accomplice.
