- COMMITTEE MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Feilding A. and 1Association was held last night in tho Library room. Present— Messrs H. J. Booth (president), W. A. Sandilands, J. Wilson, E. Goodbehere, Hugh Burrell, A. Campbell, J. B. Johnstone, J. Mills, John Cobbe W. Reid, J. Bruce, A. R. Mayo, *. F. Haggitt. Apologies were received from Messrs Perrett, Phillips, Wheeler, McElroy, and Knight. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were received : From Mr F. S. Mcßae, Palmerston North, stating he could not follow the boundaries dealing with the cup won by him for most points in fat sheep classes. — Received. From the Gear Meat Co., stating that the one sheep rejected Mas in class No. 86, Catalogue No. 374, marked Venetian red dot on shoulder. The sheep scheduled were made up as follows:—Catalogue No. 394, 3 Down ewes, Black dot in centre of back; No. 395, 3 sheep, brown dot on head. As there was nothing to the contrary in the instructions these six were killed and put through as one lot. Mr Reid pointed out that the letter was unsatisfactory, as there was nothing to show which pen was the best. From the Secretary, Maryborough A. and P. Association, dealing with the weight of grain sacks, and asking for assistance in bringing the matter before the Minister. Proposed by Messrs Sandilands and the President, that the suggestion be supported. Mr Goodbehere moved as an amendment that no action be taken, as the matter of altering the weight of sacks had been thrashed out already, and the Association had nothing to do with it. Seconded by Mr Burrell. The amendment was carried. From the General Manager, N.Z. Times Co., stating the names of the successful competitors were being engraved on the trophies, and delivery would be mad© in the course of a few days. — Received. From Henry Fitter and Sons, acknowledging receipt of particulars of sheep and lambs sent home to bo judged. They would be dealt with in the way wished by the Association. Tho manager of the company added I that he was sure the quality would be regarded as ideal. — Received. From Mr H. J. Cameron, Turakina, winner of the open hunters competition, acknowledging receipt of prize-money, and farwording a donation of £2 2s to the special prize fund. — Accepted with thanks. From Mr Joseph Weightman, acknowledging receipt of £4 4s for services in connection with the school garden competition, and intimating that it was his intention to donate tlie sum to the funds of the Association, but wished a portion of it to be allotted to flowers in the school garden competition. He would make suggetions at a future date. Mr Mayo stated he intended returning his expenses also. A vote of thanks was accorded. From Mr- A. L. Joseph, Upper Riccarton, judge of fat sheep at the recent show, making several suggestions. He recommended that tli# public bo kept from the pens during judging, that in the freezing classes the judges be advised to give preference to wether sheep, that the heavy-weight leg lamb clases be increased and prizes given for export value, meat, wool, fat per lb, highest value in dominion and London — Vote of thanks accorded, the Secretary to hold suggestions for next year. From Messrs J. M. Nicol (Marton), W. Little (Annandale), W. Archibald (Hastings), W. B. Allen (Clareville), Robt. B. McKenzie ("Hokianga,"Carnarvon), Jas. Higgi.o (Okoia), Robt. Browne (Feilding), Chas. H. Dumford (Makino), and Jas. Macara (Masterton), with reference to judges expenses at recent show. — Received. From the Hamilton Show Association stating the annual show would be held on November 4 and 5. — Noted. FREE LIQUOR NOT DESIRABLE. * Tho Executive reported that they had gone through tho accounts and recommended that in future no expense be incurred in the matter of supply of cigars and liquors in the Stewards' stand ; also that the General Committee favourably consider the question of retaining tho whole of the privileges, with the exception of the licensed booths, and that steps be taken at an early date to make arrangements for same by engaging some competent person to superintend the whole. — Report adopted. THE ATTENDANCE DISCREPANCY. The Executive sent, the following report on the attendance on the second day of the show: There were 5593 tallied for, and they were confident there were between 7000 and 8000 people on the ground. They recommended that in future steps be tatken to provide for a larger number of gate stewards, and also suggested that no vehicles, except those entered for competition, be allowed on the ground. — Report adopted. DATE OF MEETINGS. Mr Goodbehere suggested that the Committee meetings be altered, as the fourth Friday was very inconvenient. ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting was fixed for the 29th May, in the Drill Hall. The Secretary reported that tho following were the retiring members of the Committee : Messrs Baker, Bowater, Bruce, Haggitt, McLeod, McElroy, Wilson. The retiring officers are Messrs Booth (President), Burrell, Campion, Wheeler, and Pearce (vicepresidents), and Goodbehere (treasurer). NEW MEMBERS. Messrs P. Garrity, W. J. Oakley, and J. Coulter were elected members of the Association. THE THROUGH EXPRESS AND FEILDING. Mr Cobbe stated that the Chamber of Commerce was arranging for an influential deputation to go to Wellington with reference to making' Feilding a stopping-place for the through trains on the Main Trunk line. He asked that a representative be appointed. The President was appointed to the deputation. TECHNICAL SCHOOL. Mr Goodbehere proposed that the sum of £10 10s be donated to the funds of the Feilding Technical School. Seconded by the President, and carried. ANOTHER EXHIBITION. Mr Wilson proposed that a sub-com-mittee be set up to report on the advisability of running another exhibition in Feilding. He said such an exhibition would enhance the funds of the Association, as the previous one had been a big success, notwithstanding it had been at first received with coldness. The sub-committee proposed were the President and Messrs Cobbe, Bramwell, Atkinson, Goodbehere, Sandilands, Burrell, Campbell, and the mover. The motion was carried. The meeting then closed.
