CASH COUPONS FOR BREAD.

•«* SUCCESS IN INVERCARGILL. InvercaTgill, March 25. Tho manager of one of the leading baking establishments in Invercargill told a reporter that the coupon system is working very well indeed, and the great majority of customers are quite satisfied that they, as well as the 1 bakers, receive benefit by the abolition iof credit. Of course some customers demand credit and when they find ■they cannot have it from one baker they give their custom to another who will give them credit. Generally ! speaking, however, the customers who want credit are the ones who require a great deal of pressing to "pay up, and so one baker's loss is hardly another's gain. There had been some misunderstanding by customers regarding benefits to bo derived from the new system. First there is a cheaper loaf. Several things conduce to a cheaper loaf such as the absence of bad debts, no account to .render, less labour and consequently less expense to employers. Inveroargill now gets a cheaper loaf than other parts of the dominion. Taking Feilding as an example it is found that flour is exactly the same price and yet, although the coupon system is in force there also, the price is 4d per ba'lf loaf while hero t Is only 3id. By taking coupons, however, the price becomes reduced. Jn Feeding they are sold on the principle of thirteen to the dozen; thirteen coupons there cost 4s while .l 3 hero wilfcost 3s 6id (3id per half loaf) if at least forty coupons (10s lOd) are purchased. Most of tho customers have been purchasing books ot ten coupons (28 9d, and twenty (5s 6d) while a few tako books of forty (10s 10d) to get the full benefit Altogether the baklrs are quite satisfied that the coupon system ie a success.
