THE MURDERER OF CLINTON. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH — COPTBIOHT.} tPER PRESS ASSOCUTION.I Perth, March 23. Smith was executed for the murder of Clinton, at Day Dawn, on January 5. Death was instantaneous. A late Australian paper states that the trial of Smith, Bloomer and Potter, charged with tho murder of Wm. John Clinton, at Day Dawn on January 5, was continued at the Criminal Sessions, Geraldton. When tho Attor-ney-General was reading tho statement mads by the accused Bloomer, Smith startled everyone in Court by giving veot to a wild cry, and clutching in a spasmodio manner at the side of the box. Threo policemen walked over and stood for a few minutes by Smith, who stared vacantly about the Court. Later on, when a solicitor read tho phrase, "1 ihave settled him,'* Smith sprang up from his seat and shouted, "No." Immediatiely afterwards he sank back in his chair, looking pitifully weak. The caso for the prosecution was concluded. The defending counsel asked that tho charge against Potter bo withdrawn, as there was no evidence to incriminate him.
