In a heavy gale last night, with tlie glass at 29.25, the 1 steamer Sangola, which arrived from India on the 18th inst., with 1150 coolies on board, was driven ashore, with a number of large lighters loaded with Indian cargo alongside. Many small craft w©ro also wrecked. Houses and balconies were wrecked, and the valuable Levuka cablo service was interrupted, no country news being obtainable. The Mararaa, bound for Vancouver, was detained, but departed at 6 a.m. (Received March 24, 11.30 a.m.) Suva, March 24. The Sangola has been refloated. Tho banana plantations have been damaged by the storm. In the Legislative Council election, H. Scott polled 84, Geo. Cox 72, S. L. Lazarus 70, and H. Marks 60.
