j HOW THE GRASS IS. GROWING. j (Our Own Correspondent.) i The Wesleyan Sunday School Amii- ' versa ry Services, held yesterday, will be looked upon in future as a "redletter day by our Wesleyan friends | here, because of the splendid discourses given by the Rev. J. G. Chapman, of Wangamii. They were wonderfully entertaining and instructive, and* listened to with profound attention by large congregations. His special remarks to the children were in excellent tasto and breathed a true spirit of kindliness and sincerity. He also appealed to parents in a most sympathetic manner as to the train- . ing of children. We hope his visit will be repeated at an early date, if he can spare the time to come again. Besides the eloquent sermons, the musical part of tho services was beautiful, the conductor of the choir (Mr W. Eggleton) having brought the choir up to a high pitch of excellence. The singing of tho children . was exceptionally good, and Miss Dixon, at tho organ, played with ' great taste, as did also Miss Powell, at the 'cello. Some duets were also . very nicely rendered, Mr E. Clevely's voice being a great acquisition. Altogether, the services were most successful. I Tho Sunday School anniversary tea ' and public meeting will bo held on I Wednesday. j -There will be a meeting of tie i Christian Endeavourers on Thurs'luy j evening. Tho Harvest Festival scr- : vices tako place next Sunday. ! What a vast change wo have in tho appearance of tho country since the ; late rainfall. It is no exaggeration to say that the grass can now be seen growing. Never before have I seen : the grass spring up so rapidly. Let us hope we may yet have genial wea- : tlier, and no frosts. I regret to say that Mr Jos Dixou, . one of our oldest and most respe-;t---1 ed settlers here, is very unwell, suf- ; fering very much from the effects of an attack of influenza, which pros- : trated him some months since. Wo j all hope he will soon regain his usual ! health. j Mr and Mrs Lassen have lately returned from a trip to llotorua and Auckland. I am.glad to say that Mr Lassen, who has not been well for some time, seems to be much improv. i ed in health.
