PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The bi-monthly meeting of the above Presbytery was held at Marton yesterday, when there were present — The Revs. Messrs Budd (Moderator), McCully, Morton, Ryburn, Hutson, Ross, Jolly, Gordon, Gunn, and Evans (ministers), and Meters Bell, Thomson. MacFarland, Bishop, Grahame, Wilson, Fraser and McDonald (elders). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. Scott and J. Bruce. ~ , The Revs. Messrs Ross and Gordon wore appointed a committee to draw up a suitable minute concerning the Rev. J. Duncan (deceased). | The Presbytery recorded its sympathy with the Rev. E. G. and Mrs Evans in their recent bereavement. A sub-commitee, consisting of the -members from Wanganui, was appointed to deal with the matter of a Presbyterian certificate applied for by Mr John Ross, student. The Revs. McCully and Hutson reported on the recent summer school held at Turakina for home missionaries. A resolution passed by the students in attendance was read. It expressed the gratification of the students and their wish that the schoolmight become an annual affair. It I was resolved to receive the report and the resolution and record the Presbytery's thanks to God for the blessing that had been experienced in the school, and to the ministers whose lectures had been so much appreciated. The Revs. Messrs Jolly, Hutson, McCully, Evans and Gordon, with their representative elders, and Mr J. A. MacKenzie were appointed a committee to make arrangements for the continuation and development of the school. The reports from the various stations were of an encouraging nature, and showed that in the work of church extension the Presbytery was doing its ; best to overtake the work. Plans for a new church, to be erected at Wanganui -East, were submitted, and an additional grant of £50 from the Century Fund -was recommended. -- The Moderator of Rewa reported on the good work being done by Mr J. C. Loan in that district, and asked the Presbytery to re-appoint him for another year. This was agreed to, and authority to dispense the sacrafiAent of baptism and celebrate marriage waß given to Mr Loan. . . . The triennial visitations were arranged for, the congregations to be visited being Turakina, Bulls, Fordell, St. Andrew's, St, Paul's (Wanganui). It was agreed that the visiting deputations lay stress upon the home mission problem, and that" at the Juno meeting ah evening ser--vice be held in Marton, when the same theme will be discussed. The August meeting will be held in Feilding. An annual exchange of pulpits is to be arranged for, when the special subject will be home missions. The Presbytery discussed some assembly remits on the subject of baptism, after which it adjourned to meet at Marton in April. The Presbytery then met as a Maori Mission Committee, Rev. R. M. Ryburn Convenor. Mr Chisholm's tender (£135) for erecting a cottage for Mrs Pauramati, at Tokaanu, was nproved. v It was reported that a horse, dogcart and harness have been purchased for the Turakina Maori Girls' School. The girls of the school have helped to pay for the trap. They -also raised sufficient funds to pay for the annual prizes. Tonga-Rangihuea, a goldmedallist of the school, has been appointed assistant to Mrs Hamilton. A letter from Rev. J. E. Ward of Taumaranui reported a splendid forward movement among his people in favour of Christianity. ■ "
